WE ARE BRUME

HONESTLY, WE MISS HONESTY.

Today more than ever before, our values and perceptions of the world are being challenged, and not without the risk that we may be losing something valuable. Compromising authenticity and honesty has suddenly become acceptable — a sad truth on so many levels. It happens in politics, in business, in media, in creativity, almost everywhere — and in the wine and food industries too. Taking questionable shortcuts to reach a goal quickly can be effective and profitable, but at the cost of making it harder for us to know what is true or false, what is genuine or artificial.

Authenticity may become a rarity, a premium experience reserved for only a few. And surely we would feel poorer in a world without it.

Wine, unfortunately, is not always what it claims to be either. All over the world, wines are sold without any real story behind them — produced from purchased grape must of unclear origin and manipulated with various additives in industrial wine factories to fit a market trend. Wines completely lacking authenticity, yet still selling well thanks to a catchy label and a low price.

Boundaries are stretched and shortcuts are taken instead of investing in honest products with quality and transparency — things that require far more time, money and commitment.

Wine can — and should always — be an authentic expression of the specific place where it was grown. Created by and with nature, through the hand of a human being, guided by traditions and generations of inherited knowledge. Places where people have devoted their lives, with all their strength and passion, to preserving vineyards, protecting local traditions and continually refining the craft of viticulture and winemaking. All of this is what gives their wines character.

Wines with energy. Pure and unmasked, shaped by the conditions nature gave them, where the winemaker has gently shaped the wine in one direction while allowing it to speak with its own voice. Formed by wind and weather into an expression interpreted — but never distorted — by the winemaker.

These are wines you recognise once you have tasted them. Authentic wines. Pure, expressive wines full of character. Wines from a clearly defined place, with an identity like a human fingerprint — entirely their own, yet still part of something greater. Wines with an extra dimension of quality, personality and energy. Wines with a signature.

Brume Vin wants to be a voice for these winegrowers and winemakers who, through vocation, passion and immense dedication, devote themselves to this difficult craft. They may be humble wine farmers from lesser-known regions or renowned estates and châteaux with famous names. Regardless of size, they share proud traditions, deep integrity and a common history. They share an uncompromising commitment to quality, to preserving the authenticity that defines both their region and their wines, and they refuse to take shortcuts.

We admire that they dare — and choose — to stand for all of this with complete integrity. Thanks to them, we have experienced countless “wine moments”: wines that have moved us, taken our breath away, made us cry, given us goosebumps and filled us with happiness deep in the soul. Amazed by how much emotion can exist in a single sip of wine.

These are the people we want to work with. We want to help them reach an audience of wine lovers searching for these same experiences — for wines with purity, character and authenticity at their core. We want to tell their stories and share our experience of their wines.

A wine can be “Punk”, “Funk” or “Classical”, to borrow a few musical comparisons. It is wonderful that there are so many personal wines and winemakers, each with different philosophies and ideas, creating wines so remarkably different from one another. Sometimes from the very same place and the very same grape variety — yet still entirely unique. The world would be poorer without this richness of styles and expressions, where the personality of the people behind the wines shines through in what they create.

We want to be a guide for those who wish to discover wines like these and understand the places, the history and the people behind them — the producers we admire and the wines we love.

For us, wine is ultimately about emotions and joy — experiencing expressions of personality and authenticity together with other people, and creating moments we remember.

That is why we started Brume Vin.

Whether you are simply curious about authentic wine or just as passionate about it as we are, we hope to share our wine mission with you. And hopefully help you discover more wonderful wines that you too can enjoy as much as we do.

No Tricks, Just Great Wines.

OUR PROMISE

  • We only buy, sell or serve wines that we have personally tasted and genuinely enjoy — guaranteed “without tricks”.

  • We will never exaggerate a wine’s reputation or inflate its price beyond what it truly deserves simply to make a quick profit. We will never recommend a wine we do not believe in. Full stop.

  • The wines come from vineyards with a clear origin, crafted by dedicated winegrowers and winemakers with skill, craftsmanship and integrity.

  • We respect and understand the people behind the wines, whether they come from generations of winemakers or are brave pioneers embarking on their very first project.

  • We have walked through the vineyards ourselves, seen where the vines grow and how they are farmed. We have taken the time to understand how the wines are made after harvest and witnessed the producers’ commitment to quality, craftsmanship, purity and authenticity.

  • To the best of our ability, we have made sure that their philosophy is based on clean and honest winemaking, without unnecessary chemicals in the vineyards or additives used to manipulate the wines. That does not necessarily mean the wines must be officially classified as “natural wines”, because there are countless philosophies and approaches to producing pure, authentic and honest wines –both with and without specific certifications.

  • We will prioritise producers who show respect for nature, climate, the environment, history and people. For the benefit and enjoyment of nature and all of us, today and for future generations.

JAN  & JULIA JAKVIK

Jan and Julia Jakvik. Father and daughter. Lovers of wine, big emotions, and the finer arts of life.

With a lifelong background in entrepreneurship and a somewhat unhealthy obsession with everything surrounding wine — the people, the places, the emotions, and the moments shared around a bottle — Jan has spent decades travelling through wine regions, visiting vineyards and meeting vignerons in search of great wines and trying to understand the ”why”.

The more he learned, the more he realised how little he truly knew.

In the early 2000s, he studied sommelier training and completed a WSET diploma to better understand and decipher the great mystery of wine. Over time came deeper experiences and greater discoveries — how profound wine can be, how energy from the soil can somehow travel through the vine, into the glass, and all the way into your body and soul. Earth-shaking and awakening at its best.

But alongside all the beauty came another realisation: how inaccessible, commercialised and stripped of authenticity parts of the wine world had become. Too many people were missing out on some of the most emotional experiences wine can offer.

There was a growing desire to do something about that. A wine mission had been pulling at him for years. But life has a way of delaying dreams. Other businesses, obligations and partnerships kept getting in the way. Wine remained the great love on the side, a beautiful obsession that never went away.

Until now. Sometimes one door closes so another can be opened.

Meanwhile, Jan’s oldest daughter Julia — now in her early thirties — had also caught the wine bug. Probably not entirely by accident. Since childhood, she and her sisters had been dragged from vineyard to vineyard across Europe. While the adults discussed vintages and fermentation techniques, the children played with vineyard dogs, kicked gravel around damp cellars, and wondered why grown-ups became all misty-eyed over “just a sip of wine”.

After first studying law at university, Julia realised that the rigidity of legal studies did not quite fit her deeply emotional and intuitive personality. Instead, she turned towards art, studying painting in Florence and Stockholm.

Today, she works both as an artist and in restaurants serving great wines — drawn to the same world from a different angle.

Years spent around vineyards, wine cellars, restaurants and producers slowly shaped an emotional connection to wine and the people behind it. Not only its technical aspects, but its personality and emotional language.

She has a rare sensitivity for interpreting and expressing those nuances — helping others understand not only how a wine tastes, but how it feels.

Together, we created Brume Vin.

Father and daughter. Wine obsessives. Armed with a bottle, a glass and a pen — and in Julia’s case, sometimes also a paintbrush, trying to describe and share the wine world as we see it, here on brumevin.com and soon at Bar Brume in Briancon.

No Tricks. Just Great Wine.

Welcome to Brume Vin.
